What a dental implant really is.
Not a metal tooth, but a titanium root that the bone accepts as part of itself. On top of it, in the end, sits a ceramic crown that nobody can tell apart from a real tooth.

The implant
A titanium screw, 8 to 14 millimetres long. Within a few months the bone grows onto its surface. This is called osseointegration.

The abutment
The connector between root and crown. It passes through the gum and shapes it so that it later sits naturally around the tooth.

The crown
All-ceramic, digitally scanned, colour-matched. With a bridge or fixed teeth in one day, several implants support a shared framework.

The procedure
Implant placement: planned on screen, carried out calmly.
Before we do anything, we know where the nerve, the sinus and the bone lie. The 3D X-ray in our practice makes the operation predictable, for you too.

Local anaesthetic, sedation or general anaesthetic. A single implant takes about 45 minutes.

Healing
The bone bonds with the titanium. Temporary restoration or immediate loading.

Crown or bridge
Digital scan, try-in, fitting. Colour and shape as you wish.

Aftercare
Check-ups every six months. Implants last as long as the tissue stays healthy.
Fixed teeth in one day
Fixed teeth in one day: when all the teeth are replaced.
Teeth that cannot be saved are removed, four to six implants are placed and a fixed provisional bridge is screwed on. You arrive in the morning with nothing secure and leave in the evening with fixed teeth.
The rear implants are placed at an angle. This lets us use the bone you have and often avoids bone grafting. The concept is also known as All-on-X, or All-on-4 or All-on-6 depending on the number of implants (brand names of Nobel Biocare). Here we simply call it fixed teeth in one day.
Honestly
What we don’t promise you.
Implant advertising promises a lot. We would rather tell you beforehand where the limits are. Then there is no disappointment afterwards.
“In one day” applies to the treatment, not to the biology.
The implants still need months to heal in. The provisional bridge you get on the treatment day is fixed, but the final bridge comes later.
Not everyone is a candidate for immediate loading.
Bone quality, implant stability, bite and general health decide. If it isn’t right for you, we say so and plan differently.
An implant is not always better than a bridge.
If the neighbouring teeth need crowns anyway, a bridge can be the smarter solution. We show you both options openly.

Common questions about dental implants: what patients ask us beforehand.
Does having an implant placed hurt?
The procedure itself is pain-free thanks to the anaesthetic. Afterwards, a mild feeling of tightness for two to three days is normal, comparable to a tooth extraction. Most patients are back at work the next day.
How long does an implant last?
There is no fixed lifespan. Many implants work for decades if the gum and bone stay healthy. That is why aftercare is part of the treatment.
Am I too old for implants?
Age is not a reason to rule them out. What matters is your general health, bone and gums.
What if there is not enough bone?
Then we build up bone with a graft, often in the same session, or choose a concept that uses the bone you have, such as angled implants. The 3D X-ray shows us this precisely beforehand.
I have gum disease (periodontitis). Is it still possible?
Yes, but only after the periodontitis has been treated. Placing an implant into inflamed tissue would be irresponsible.
What does an implant cost?
Every situation is different, which is why we don’t quote figures online. After your consultation you receive an individual written plan with all the alternatives, explained without any rush.
I’m anxious. Can this be done under general anaesthetic?
Yes. Sedation or general anaesthetic with an anaesthetic team in the practice, depending on the procedure and your health.
