Some questions simply cannot be answered reliably with a conventional X-ray. With a three-dimensional scan, we create greater clarity for your treatment – wherever it is genuinely needed.
Conventional X-rays are excellent for many dental questions. However, they show three-dimensional anatomical structures on a two-dimensional image.
Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) – also known as digital volume tomography – provides a three-dimensional view of selected areas of the jaw.
When can a CBCT scan be useful?
A CBCT scan can provide additional information, for example in complex implant planning, for impacted teeth, for certain surgical questions or for assessing anatomical structures.
The course of nerves, the available bone and spatial relationships can be viewed in three planes.
Implantology
Before an implant is placed, a three-dimensional view can help to assess bone height and width as well as the relationship to important anatomical structures.
Based on this data, the implant position can be planned digitally.
More diagnostics does not automatically mean better medicine
Three-dimensional X-ray imaging also involves ionising radiation.
That is why we do not use CBCT routinely on every patient. A scan should offer genuine diagnostic or therapeutic value and be medically justified.
