Our fundamental aim is to preserve natural teeth for as long as possible. There are, however, situations in which removing a tooth is medically sensible or unavoidable.

These include, for example, severely damaged teeth, pronounced infections, fractures that cannot be treated in a meaningful way, or impacted and problematic wisdom teeth.

A gentle approach

A tooth extraction is about more than simply removing the tooth. The surrounding gum and jawbone also play an important role in the healing that follows.

That is why we aim to carry out the procedure with as little impact on the surrounding tissue as possible.

This is particularly important if an implant is planned for that site at a later stage.

What does the treatment involve?

First, we assess the tooth and its surroundings both clinically and with X-ray imaging. The area is then carefully numbed with a local anaesthetic.

Depending on the tooth and the initial situation, a simple extraction may be possible, or a small surgical access may be required.

After the removal, the surgical site is checked, cleaned and – if necessary – sutured.

What happens to the resulting gap?

Not every gap needs to be restored in the same way. Depending on its position and your overall situation, options include an implant, a bridge or a removable denture.

If it is already clear before the extraction that an implant is planned, we factor the later restoration into our surgical planning right from the start.

After the tooth extraction

Swelling and some wound discomfort can occur in the first few days. Slight bleeding immediately after the procedure is also possible.
