Reception of the Mensch im Mittelpunkt dental practice in Darmstadt: a patient being welcomed at the front desk

Our PhilosophyThe person first. Then the tooth.

Our practice is called “Mensch im Mittelpunkt” – people at the centre. That is not lettering for the front door, it is an order of events: listen first, then examine, then explain – and only then treat. This page describes what that means on an ordinary working day.

Mon–Thu 8 am–6 pm · Fri 8 am–5 pm · Dieburger Straße 10, Darmstadt

The name

Why the practice is called what it is called.

A tooth is an organ, not a case. Anyone who comes to us in pain, in fear, or with a broken front tooth brings a story with them – and almost always an expectation that nobody has ever asked about. That is exactly where we begin.

  • You decide what happens. We tell you what we recommend, and why.
  • Every finding is shown, not just described – on screen, using your own images.
  • There is no treatment whose cost you do not know beforehand.
  • Saying no is allowed. Even once you are already in the chair.

01
Listening

Before we treat, we listen.

The first appointment is not a drilling appointment. It exists so that we get to know your mouth – and you get to know us. How long it takes is decided by your situation, not by the calendar.

01
No stopwatch

Arriving

You tell us what brings you here: symptoms, wishes, bad experiences in the past. We ask about medical conditions and medication, because both matter in dentistry.

02
Only if needed

Examination

We examine teeth, gums and jaw joints. We take an X-ray when the image genuinely changes the decision. For complex cases, in three dimensions with our in-house CBCT.

03
On screen

Showing

You see your own images. We show you what we see, in plain words – including what happens if nothing is done. That is part of informed consent.

04
Unhurried

Deciding

There is usually more than one route. You get all of them, with pros and cons and with costs. Nothing has to be decided the same day.

02
Explaining

No jargon. No surprises on the invoice.

Most conflicts in a dental practice do not arise in the chair but afterwards – because something was never discussed. So we talk first, and we keep talking until it has landed.

1

Pictures instead of claims

X-rays, photographs and digital scans go onto a screen that you can see. What we describe, you can check for yourself – and compare next time.

2

One goal, several routes

Every recommendation comes with its alternative, including the cheaper one. And with an honest answer to the question of what happens if you wait.

3

Costs up front, in writing

Before larger treatments you receive a written treatment and cost plan. What your insurer covers and what it does not is in there before you agree. There are no surprises afterwards.

03
Treating

As much as necessary. As little as possible.

Every procedure costs substance. Enamel does not grow back, and neither does bone. That is why the restrained decision is the normal one here – not the brave one.

Keepbefore replace

Your own tooth is almost always better than the best replacement. Root canal treatment, periodontal therapy and plastic gum surgery are not last resorts for us, they are the first attempt.

Waitingis a treatment

Not every finding has to go immediately. Some spots we monitor and document for years instead of drilling them out as a precaution. A check-up is cheaper than a repair.

Checkingwith someone else is welcome

If a proposal is a big one, get a second opinion. We will give you the records to take along. A decision you have not understood yourself is not one we want.

05
Together

The three reasons people do not go to the dentist.

It is rarely the teeth. It is fear, language and time. Something can be done about all three – provided they are mentioned at all.

Fear

Tell us beforehand

Dental anxiety is nothing to apologise for. Say so on your first call and we plan differently: more time, an agreed hand signal to stop, every step announced in advance.

If that is not enough, we will discuss treatment under sedation or general anaesthesia. Whether it makes medical sense is something we decide together – the wish alone is not enough for us.

Language

Speak in your own language

Information you only half understand is not information. German, English, Russian, Turkish and Azerbaijani are spoken here, and more languages within the team.

This is not a service extra. It is the precondition for you actually being able to consent – rather than merely nodding.

Time

One appointment, one subject

We schedule appointments so that the treatment fits into them, not the other way round. Sometimes that means waiting a little longer for a slot. In return, nothing is cut short at your appointment.

And anyone calling with acute pain is not put off until the next free routine slot. That is what a daily schedule is for.

The standard
“I want my patients not only to be treated excellently, but also to feel genuinely understood and well looked after. For me, precision, trust and humanity belong inseparably together.”

He founded the practice on Dieburger Straße in 2025 – with the name as its programme. The team has grown to eleven people since; the attitude has stayed the same.
